Invisalign is a series of clear plastic aligners that are used to move your teeth gradually into place. They are nearly invisible, comfortable, and removable. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks. As you replace each tray with the next in the series, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position.
Just imagine how cool it would be to have a completely clear smile! Our patients love Invisalign because it gives them the freedom to live their lives without holding back. If you just got your Invisalign, here are some tips for you:
While you should brush your teeth after eating, don’t neglect your daily cleanings. Cleanings are important because they remove plaque and tartar from your teeth and gums. Plaque and tartar can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
Invisalign aligners are removable. But, because you have to remove them to eat, that means you need to take care when eating, cleaning your teeth, and putting them back in.
We recommend wearing your aligners 22 hours a day. That means taking them out to eat or brushing and flossing your teeth before putting them back in.
If you don’t wear your aligners enough, your teeth might shift out of position. And when your teeth shift, it’s more difficult to realign them.
In order for your Invisalign treatment to work at its optimal level, you should be attending all of your appointments. While Invisalign aligners are removable, they should only be taken out to eat, drink, brush and floss your teeth. Your aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours per day.
If you miss your appointment, your treatment can be delayed, and you’ll need to wear your aligners longer in order for them to do their job. This can make the entire treatment plan more expensive.
Practice good oral hygiene. Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time, and use a soft-bristled toothbrush as well as fluoride toothpaste. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle against the gum line and use small circular motions to gently brush each tooth.
Floss your teeth once a day. It helps remove plaque from between the teeth. It also helps remove food debris and bacteria from between the teeth.
Your retainer is your best friend. You should wear it 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Invisalign treatment doesn’t end with the removal of aligners. In fact, that’s when the real work begins! Invisalign treatment relies on your retainer to keep your teeth from shifting back into their original position. Wearing the retainer is just like wearing Invisalign aligners.
